This page contains video footage documenting my family’s RDI Journey during the first four and a half months in which we worked with a consultant.

February 2006: This clip is one of the first that we submitted to our RDI consultant. Our objective was simply to work on developing our son’s sense of co-regulation. The discovery that we were framing for Oliver was that his actions and that of his partner, were related to (and influenced by) each other. As you can see, Oliver was so disregulated that he could not even walk with us. In order to support him through these early stages we had to keep in physical contact with him or he would leave the interaction. At the time we had submitted this clip, Oliver had been in an ABA, early intervention program for 18 months.

March 2006: In this clip we see that Oliver has discovered what it means to be co-regulated with his partner! In the first few minutes of the clip you see that we are working on issues related to coordination and referencing: Oliver had to reference me first to determine when and how to complete his action so that he could coordinate with me. But the real magic is the second half of this clip where Oliver and I enjoy – really enjoy -- our first ever back and forth game. He is 4½ years old.

June 2006: By this time we no longer had to keep in physical contact with Oliver but we did have to keep the distance between us quite close during communication. At this time I nearly always had to put my face close to his or on his level to compete with other distractions in the environment. However, we see that Oliver is now referencing for all kinds of information, including agreement and disagreement, and direction of intended action.
