FAQ

Learning to be a parent is a journey filled with discoveries about yourself, your child, your relationship with your spouse, and the world around you. If you are the parent of a child with autism then your journey has likely been far different from the journeys of your friends, relatives and probably everyone else you know.

When your child was diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder you may have felt completely lost on your journey, without a map or chart to help you find your way. Even if you had a compass -- a strong faith or loving family support -- you might have found that the standard settings used by other parents just didn't work.

As a parent of a child with autism, I found myself feeling lost before ever discovering the reason why I just couldn't seem to get the "knack" of parenting. My son, Oliver, was diagnosed with autism in August, 2005 at the age of three. It was only then that I came to understand the nature of my journey and two years after that when I began to find my rudder.

Parenting your son or daughter with ASD can be journey of discovery, beauty, and unexpected gifts. It can also be challenging, stressful and sometimes frustrating. At Journeys, we believe that all these elements give families the coordinates for the journey of a lifetime.

Our mission is to help guide families on their journey, navigating the eddies, currents and barriers using the principles of Relationship Development Intervention.
