What's New
- Essential Pieces, A project of Lutheran Family Services in Winchester, Virginia will host a presentation by JOURNEYS consultant, Christine Stephan, on September 24th. Come by and say "Hello" and ask about how RDI might benefit the person you love with autism.
- Interested in learning more about RDI? Come to the Greater Roanoke Valley Autism Advocate Group Annual Conference, October 1st and 2nd where I'll be presenting and answering questions about RDI.
- Christine Stephan, Harrisonburg's Certified RDI Program Consultant, has contributed to the anthology Gravity Pulls You In. 33 authors have contributed their slice-of-life depictions, all of them a refreshing departure
from the usual diagnosis/grief/acceptance arc of many autism accounts,
and serve as a reminder that life is lived in the many small, everyday
moments.
- Gravity Pulls You In was just listed as a finalist for the Non Fiction / Anthology Category from the International Book Awards!
Choose Your Journey
Navigating autism can feel like a challenging, stormy day at sea. It
can also be a journey of discovery and unexpected joys. It can mean
loving more deeply, giving more freely, and living more fully for the
moment.
The principles of Relationship Development Intervention (RDI®),
used by JOURNEYS, empowers parents by giving them the tools to navigate
autism in a way that honors their role as the primary guide in their
child's life. By using a family-centered model for autism intervention,
JOURNEYS will empower each family to navigate a journey that is uniquely
their own.
Our programs are designed to:
- Help parents feel more competent
- Foster a deeper, more connected, relationship between parent and
child
- Enable children to become more flexible and better at coping
with anxiety
- Foster your child's desire for cognitive apprenticeship
- Provide your child with a chance to focus on developmental skills
that lay the foundation for dynamic thinking

Finding the right autism intervention is the most important decision you will make when your child is diagnosed with autism, developmental delay, PDD or asperger syndrome.
